Lineas quartz sensors and charge amplifiers

In the meantime, Traffic Data Systems has accumulated more than 10 years of experience with the installation and operation of Lineas sensors. The first installation was carried out at the "Blauen Wunder" in Dresden. The sensors installed at that time are still in use.

Lineas sensors are supplied in lengths of 150, 175 and 200 cm. Interference with the carriageway is minimal, as the installation depth is only 55 mm and the width of the slot only 72 mm. This enables rows of sensors to be arranged in any widths. Axle-load scales with LINEAS sensors are hardly noticeable in flowing traffic, as they do not extend far in the direction of travel. Along with the low spread, one of the main advantages is adaptation to the surface of the carriageway. As there is no difference in height between the road surface and the sensor, this contributes to a considerable reduction in measuring errors.

The use of quartz technology means that the Lineas sensor is independent of temperature, obviating the need for complex temperature compensation.

The high-impedance signals of the LINEAS sensors are converted into low-impedance output signals by a multi-channel charge amplifier, and digitalised by means of an A/D converter.
