M2M advice

Security information

Reports of security lapses in the field of mobile M2M applications have recently been on the increase. For this reason, we would like to draw your attention to certain security measures which must be observed when using TDS communications modules in public mobile wireless networks.

1. Public IP adresses

Our equipment should only be connected to the Internet using private network addresses. This will ensure that external access to terminal equipment is impossible without authorisation. This is particularly important, as attempts to break in would cause loss of bandwidth and incur costs even when applications are protected correctly.

2. Operation on local networks

If TDS equipment is operated on local networks which are connected to public networks, it is essential that the Internet gateway is equipped with a correctly configured firewall.

3. Operation for demonstration and test purposes

It is sometimes necessary to use ‘open’ Internet gateways. In such cases, it must be ensured that no production systems are incorporated.

General information

Systems which are managed directly by TDS have secure, encrypted remote access. The problems stated here do not fundamentally occur. We would be pleased to hear from you if you have any questions on the topics addressed here.
